1000 Mile Solo

Här har vi ett race för tuffa (eller galna) killar och tjejer: 1000 Mile Solo (NoR). Bland de hittills 17 anmälda båtarna hittar vi vår egen Jonas Claesson på startlinjen. Han skall traila ner båten till England efter Watski TwoStar.

Dessutom en J/105, en J/122 och J/109 ChillOut! med Henk Bulthuis från Holland. Henk har bland annat kört Fastnet Race, RORC North Sea Race, Shetland Round Britain & Ireland Race och vunnit Two handed Around North of Holland två gånger.

1000 Miles Solo

This race will be the completion of our 4 year cycle of solo races where we have gradually increased the distance, adding open water experience and more nights at sea.

Mylor to Kinsale = 185 NM
Kinsale to Santander = 525 NM OSTAR qualifier
Santander to Camaret = 290 NM

The ports have been selected with solo racing in mind, for relatively safe approach in all weathers, with few off- lying dangers and remote from shipping. They will also allow contestants to sample the best of English, Irish, Spanish and French hospitality.

The first leg to Kinsale will be familiar to the skippers of our 2007 race and is a pleasant 36 hour warm up. The OSTAR qualifying leg to Santander is designed to give a taste of open water off the continental shelf, and will require 3 or 4 nights at sea. The final leg to Camaret will round off what promises to be a superb two weeks.

Saturday 28 June: welcome supper at Mylor Y.C.
Sunday 29 June: start at Mylor
Wednesday 2 July: start at Kinsale
Wednesday 9 July: start at Santander
Saturday 12 July: prizes at Camaret

Open to mono and multi-hull yachts from 28 feet to 50 feet.

The course is very similar to our first race in 2004 when we visited Gijon in Northern Spain. Several of the skippers went on to enter and complete the Ostar 2005. Nico Budel winning the Open 40 class and Leon Bart winning the multi hull handicap prize.
