The HP30 Class will soon be re-established, with a new constitution, class association and race programme.
A Class Constitution has been drafted by RORC Rating Office and has been posted on the HP30 Class website. RORC Rating has kindly pulled this together and it is a combination of the standard World Sailing class contract that has been reduced to UK Only.
Class Limits
RORC Rating has spent some time working on the Class limits and proposes the following for discussion by the Class Association.Min LH: 8.5m Max LH: 9.6m (existing boats) – new boats Max LH: to follow
Min TCC: 1.055 Max TCC: 1.150 (to be confirmed)
Max Draft: 2.45m
Max DLR: 125
Min Speed Ratio: 0.119 – The minimum TCC^2/LH ratio is less length sensitive and kinder to some of the existing boats allowing them to achieve the Class Limits, without having to make massive changes to their configurations.Clarification over definitions for Existing Boat, Build Date and Series Dates to be advised in the RORC Rating Class Limits document and Class Rule which will be supplied in the future.
Broadly speaking, the following boats fit into the class: FarEast28R/Farr280s/Farr30s/Henderson30/Soto30/C&C30 BR31/Cape31/FarEast31R and Pauger30.
Plenty of choice for varying sizes of budget and there are other boats which can be optimised to fit the rule with minor changes.
Class Association Committee
The class is looking for a number of owner’s to get involved, to help take the HP30s on to the next level. Technically, the constitution requires two committees to run the Class; one for the Association and a technical committee appointed by the class association to look after the rule although in the immediate future a smaller working group will be formed to put things in place for 2018. RORC Rating have offered to sit on the technical committee and the details of this arrangement will be sorted in due course. The committee will meet as per the Class Association Constitution (now on the website). Joe Hall has offered to assume the role of Class Manager. Dates and details of the first meeting will be posted in due course. For those with time to support the HP30s please email secretary@hp30class.com
Outline schedule of events
The following events will provide the HP30 Class starts or extracted results in mixed fleets, depending on numbers available:
RORC Easter Challenge 29, Mar – 01, Apr, 2018
Royal Southern May Regatta 12, May – 13, May, 2018
Vice Admirals Cup 18, May – 20, May, 2018
Poole Regatta 2018 26, May – 28, May, 2018 – possible HP30 Nationals?
Royal Southern June Regatta 23, Jun – 24, Jun, 2018Round the Island Race 1st July
Royal Southern July Regatta 14, Jul – 15, Jul, 2018
Lendy Cowes Week 2018 04, Aug – 11, Aug, 2018Dartmouth Regatta 30, Aug – 01, Sep, 2018
Royal Southern Sept Regatta 08, Sep – 09, Sep, 2018It has been suggested by RORC Rating and welcomed by Poole International Regatta that the HP30 Class treat their regatta as a UK Nationals. The Combined Clubs who organise the event in Poole are eager to support the Class and will help as much as they can with logistics, launching and retrieving boats, accommodation lists and of course providing excellent racing and social. It sounds like it could be a great event.
Summary
From an existing fleet perspective, there are currently five boats that can start the season, although there is considerable interest from owners and teams looking to get involved. It is however, vital that more boats are encouraged to join the existing FarEast28, three Farr280s and two Farr30s, so the season can start with at least ten boats. For the mid-summer events, the fleet will be boosted by overseas boats, including more FE28s and F280s plus the MC31 / FarEast31R and a Pauger 30 so for those events in the middle part of the season. A fleet size in the mid-teens is expected for summer events.
The next steps are to agree the class limits, get the working party together and keep the momentum up on the events and teams wanting to come racing. The class needs as much help as possible and is looking for support for the programme to encourage as many owners and crew to join in.

Stay tuned.

The experience of the Silverrudder Challenge will not leave you indifferent, but you will join an elite club – The Hard Bastards Association, and you’ll never see bridges in the same way. If you haven’t already you should add this challenge to your bucket list! #SSCSLVR

A lot has happened in the four years since we created the successful Ker46, of which four were built and raced successfully including class wins in the Sydney to Hobart race and many other race wins. Our continually improving optimisation technologies have been honed through various pro-jects and it was clear that the time had come to bring out a new design. Replacing the Ker46 as our semi-custom offering in the size range, the Ker46+ uses as its generational baseline the heavily researched Ker40+ that came out guns-blazing in 2015 winning class in the Around the Island race on its first race outing and comfortably winning the first ever ‘Fast 40’ regatta
1.Shape and Concept
The Ker 46+ is significantly lighter than the previous generation, but its powerful hull form ensures excellent upwind and reaching performance. The hull shape is the product of an extensive formal optimisation involving large volumes of RANS CFD data, leveraged through use of Neural Networks and proprietary optimisation techniques. The optimisation process for the 46+ benefits from real data and feedback from our recent projects.
2.Structure
Taking the structural optimisation to levels rarely seen outside of Americas Cup, the final lamination is the product of structural weight v stiffness optimisation, and the deflection of the shape under sailing loads is taken into account in the definition of the moulded shape. Construction is from pre-preg Carbon and carefully selected foams throughout; a large weight saving from the build method used on the infused Ker46 design.
The keel and mast support structure follows our tried and tested approach, built in the autoclave on machined aluminium moulds for reliability and accuracy.
3.Appendages
An extensive keel shape optimisation has been carried out, achieving very significant section drag gains downwind without compromising upwind gains. These downwind gains have been used to increase the fin area, making the design easier to sail to its potential in variable conditions.
During recent years we have evolved our approach to keel fin structures, retaining our extremely cautious approach while taking advantage of extensive FEA structural optimisation and IRC’s new freedom of keel fin material and processing selection to save considerable weight.
The rudder design uses an optimal blend of high modulus, intermediate modulus and standard modulus carbon fibre types to maximise its strength and stiffness within its design constraints, and is solid carbon right through its thickness in way of the critical lower bearing position.
4. Rig
The rig aspect ratio is reduced compared to the previous 46, partly due to better sail depowering behaviour, reduced rig weight and better treatment by ORCi’s aero model. The bowsprit length has increased significantly and the bowsprit design has been optimised for weight, stiffness, wind-age and reliability of installation.
5. Deck layout
The ‘coachroof’ shape of the previous Ker 46 is retained, with its optimal jib sheeting arrangement on the apex of a long coachroof, however the jib tracks have been extended inboard to allow tighter sheeting angles. This arrangement allows for a more practical interior space for venturing offshore than the fully ‘flat deck’ arrangement that has become fashionable for inshore racing, but does so while actually saving weight through the incorporation of natural deck stiffeners into its shaping.
6. Foredeck chanfer
The New 46+ has a chamfer incorporated into the fordeck to improve aerodynamic efficiency and save weight.
Nu verkar det vara skarpt läge med X-Treme 32. Vi diskuterade ju den här.
Kul upplägg och en snygg lösning med containern.
Även priset verkar vara spikat. Runt €129k + moms + segel & instrument.
Dear Peter,
It has been a while and we haven’t sitting still. And herewith I send you the information of the new X-Treme 32. Two are sold off the design now and they will be launched in April 2018.
The concept goes beyond normal yacht racing, offers offshore capacities and smart logistic solutions. For offshore racing we will offer a removable dodger with solar panels to charge batteries and run electronics during distance racing. Lets say “sportsboat thrills with offshore skills”.
We are working on a customized 40′ High Cube container, side open (as pictures but then a little higher) which we will add to the X-Treme 32 price list.
This container will be optimized for the X-Treme 32 and will contain:
– Canting cradle on rails to load and unload the hull easy
– Bed for the keel. Keel can be fixed and removed easy
– Work bench with drawers for tools
– Solar panel (flat) on roof of container and batteries for electric tools, light in container etc
– Painted with logo in any colour the client requiresClients who order the X-Treme 32 with container will get a lifelong “G-Force Yachts Logistic support” meaning that, for example, the owner sends a mail with the request to ship his container with requested race dates. We pick up the container, ship it over to any part of the world and take care of all needed documentation. This at logistic cost price.
I look forward to your thoughts.
With best regards,
Jeroen Wats
