Mr. J80 – Jeff Johnstone No 2 after ten races

young crew of polar express “All boats we built must pass the test by the family”‘, emphasizes Jeff Johnstone, sole American Skipper at the J80 Worlds. He belongs to the second generation of the boat- builder family Johnstone from Newport/ Rhode Island who has put J-Boats of all seizes on the worldwide market for a long time, and did that with great success.

The J80, designed by his brother Alan in 1993, which is represented here in Schilksee 63 times, stands out due to her wide dynamic and ” … she is, nevertheless easy to handle “, as Jeff stresses. He gives daily proof that he controls his “own” boat perfectly. He holds the second place in the overall ranking after the ninth race already. He appreciates very much that the J80 class takes it for granted to be open for young people. That’s why 14-year-old Stella Mau and 15-year-old Florian Föh belong to his crew. It is the first time that Jeff Johnstone takes part in a World Cup. Until now he was known more to be an adviser and measurer in the regatta scene. In the harbour environment the 48-year-old sailor enjoys a good reputation and is liked well by his sailing buddies.. He does not have any airs and graces and behaves like the “common” sailor. And if he looks around the Schilksee Olympiahafen and views all the pretty ambiance, you at once believe him when he exclaims “:It is the pure joy to see all this here..”.
