Terry Hutchinson + Quantum
Quantum Sails and Terry Hutchinson Collaborate
(Traverse City, MI – 20th January)
Terry Hutchinson and the Quantum Sail Design Group have agreed on a partnership, bringing Terry into the company in a role that is focused on product development and customer awareness. He will work directly with Quantum designers on developing sails and technology, and he will use Quantum sails exclusively on all his racing programs. Along with his other professional racing commitments in 2009, Terry will be helming the TP52 Quantum Racing in the 2009 Medcup, and campaigning Barking Mad in the European Farr 40 Circuit with Quantum sails.
Ed Reynolds, President of Quantum Sails, and Terry Hutchinson explain.“It’s going to be a challenge,” said Terry. “This is a great opportunity for me and the customers I race with. Quantum has the most aggressive technology and product development program in the industry. It’s hard to ignore the results that Quantum customers are achieving at every level of the sport. I have been involved with a number of sailing programs with Quantum over the years, and all of them were fun and successful. As anyone that has ever sailed with me will tell you, I have high expectations of myself and everyone around me, these guys have delivered every time. Working on the Quantum Racing program gave me and the pro sailors on our team an inside look at the passion and commitment this company has to become the best sailmaker in the world. It seems like everyone I worked with at Quantum, from top to bottom, has the same passion and demand for perfection that I try to bring to my sailing. It feels like a perfect fit. I am excited to be a part of this, and can’t wait to start working.”
Notes Quantum president Ed Reynolds, “While we look forward to the heightened awareness of our successes that Terry will bring, he is being tasked with three important missions. First is the continual development of the products and services that top sailors demand from their sailmaker. Second, Terry will be the first to admit that a large measure of his success comes from the core group of sailors around him. He will be Quantum’s liaison to professional sailors; responsible for tapping into this talent pool and bringing their skills to the job of building better sails and pushing the technological edge. Third, and most importantly, he will be in charge of communicating with Quantum customers and providing access to the information gleaned from Quantum Racing, other professionals, and the teams that he works with. Unless we can transfer this information, the benefits to their performance will never be realized.”
“The ultimate mission of the Quantum Racing program is to help develop better sails and techniques for Quantum customers at every level of the sport. The methodology the team used to constantly improve the performance of the boat was rigorous and straightforward. We realized that with a defined template, any sailing team could use elements of this approach to achieve better results. We intend to capture this process and use it to provide the best communication between our design team and customers.”
