ORC VPP 2022 vs 2021
As you may now, the ORC VPP changed in a big way this winter. Most of it is documented in the Technical Committee meeting notes from October.
Naturally, we were interested in the effects, and here are the relative changes to J/111 BLUR.
Note, this is with a “smallish crew” of 590 kg (7 crew).
My 2c:
a) 2022 version conforms much better with our actual data (logged & updated over 10 years).
b) Wider beat angles which seems correct for the J/111.
c) The VPP now understands that we’re not sailing TWA 176 @ 16 kt :-)Â
d) The VPP picks up the planing threshold in a pretty good way.
e) Smaller effect with the 75% code (red band from TWA 75 @ 10 kt to TWA 120 @ 20 kt.
Overall, some pretty big adjustments, but much better vs the real world.
