ORCi Europeans 2022 | trash talk
Some pretty nice photos from the last time Hankø hosted the ORCi Europeans in 2011 (full gallery). Then I had Dobbs Davies as photo boat driver and I remembered we had some heated discussions on the finer details of the VPP 😀 A lot has changed in the last 11 years.
Class A
Looking at the results from the Worlds in 2021, its hould be a two boat affair between TP52 Imagine and Mills 45 Halbtrocken. Maybe a slight edge for Imagine since they’ve done a lot of sailing this year?
TP52 | Imagine | 433.8 | 15.709 | Holger STRECKENBACH |
TP52 | Jokerman III | 443.7 | 15.234 | Per Ottar SKAARET |
Mills 45 | Halbtrocken 4.5 | 467.6 | 13.576 | Michael BERGHORN |
Fast 40+ | X-DAY | 479.0 | 12.589 | Lars HUECKSTAEDT |
Swan 45 | KATIMA | 540.6 | 12.102 | Jan OPLÄNDER |
Soto 40 | UNO SISS | 503.0 | 11.86 | Ole Birger GIÆVER |
E 44 | Clean Energy | 530.8 | 11.614 | Mati SEPP |
Biggest 🤯 is E44 Clean Energy. How can a sporty 44-footer designed in 2021 have over a ton of internal lead?
I thought we were over the trend of making really slow ORCi-boats after a few of the recent disasters! Why not go with a 2015 Mills 45 instead… Better boat in every way. And probably cheaper as well.
Class B
In this class there’re more boatrs. And more boats that have a shot at the podium. Two designs have a proven track record and will be hard to beat: Landmark 43 and X-41.
Among the Landmarks, Intermezzo, White Shadow and Game should be very close. And Olympic should be a slight favourie before 3-4 other X-41? They won Baltic Offshore Week in june, and had a strong series in the last Worlds (best boat of the ones competing here). But Xini Freedom with Sten Mohr and some of the others will be able to stay close. It’s impossible to cover this meny good boats. Naturally I hope to see Kwanza be able to challenge as well.
Add ClubSwan 42 Sirena into the mix, and this is by far the toughest class.
XP-44 | TOO BONITA | 545.1 | 11.63 | Knut G HEJE |
Landmark 43 | Intermezzo | 533.5 | 11.603 | Jens KUPHAL |
IMX 45 | PhiloXenia | 547.6 | 11.557 | Annelise KULLMAN |
Landmark 43 | Game | 540.4 | 11.556 | Calle ANDERSEN |
XP-44 | Born to Run | 548.7 | 11.533 | Pål STIANSEN |
Landmark 43 | White Shadow | 540.6 | 11.527 | Torkjel VALLAND |
SWAN 42 | Sirena | 537.7 | 11.498 | Peter BUHL |
Aquatich 40 | Snakkas | 534.9 | 11.446 | Per SORTEDAL |
XP 44 | SURPRISE | 548.1 | 11.414 | Marie-Ivonne OTISI-SCHAARSCHMIDT |
Landmark 43 | Madame Gray | 536.2 | 11.37 | Sampsa VEHKAMÄKI |
X-41 | Xini Freedom | 568.5 | 10.786 | Martin ESTLANDER |
X-41 | Nexus | 567.6 | 10.712 | Søren JUNKER |
X-41 | Gottix | 566.8 | 10.709 | Gustav GOTTEBERG |
X-41 | Kwanza | 574.0 | 10.697 | Sten HAEGER |
X-41 | Olympic | 569.2 | 10.675 | Tiit VIHUL |
King 40 | Magic | 567.1 | 10.657 | Aasmund DROLSUM |
X-41 mod | PREMIUM | 571.0 | 10.626 | Tanel TAMM |
X-41 | Xanadu | 569.7 | 10.596 | Sigurd TVEIT |
Sinergia 40 | Sons of Hurricanes | 577.7 | 10.38 | Jon Sverre HOIDEN |
J/111 | Dacapo | 572.5 | 10.134 | Jørgen G HEJE |
X-41 | Salesforce SailLogic | Magnus HEDEMARK |
Class C
Here we have three favourites (!) with past medals to prove it: Patrik Forsgrens First 36.7 Team Pro4, J/112E Matilda 4 with Joachim Aschenbrenner and Aivar Tuulbergs Arcona 340 Katariina II. My bet is on this order…
The biggest threat to the party comes from sevaral Italia 11.98, a model that’s been very suceesful. This years Worlds in Porto Cervo had FOUR boats topping the results. We raced agiant Sugar 3 and Scugnizza in Tre Golfi and those boats are hard to beat. These boats don’t hava a track record (yet) som hard to say who’s got an edge. But it’s hard to bet against Mads Christensen and the team on Stony?
Outsiders in lighter winds could be Melges 32 Hotshot and Bashford 36 Virginia.
Bashford 36 | Virginia | 593.0 | 9.775 | Knut NYGAARD |
Italia 11.98 | Rhino | 594.3 | 9.766 | Saulius PAJARSKAS |

I think they have battery/electronics problem and haven’t splashed this year.

“Clean Energy will not race the Europeans unfortunately. They have a big issue with the electric engine system. Very expensive batteries pack are gone and there is a big fight going on with producer.”

Klass A:
1. Mills 45 Halbtrocken 4.5, 2. TP 52 Jokerman, 3. TP 52 Imagine. Som tippat? Bra av Jokerman att slå Imagine.
Klass B:
1. Landmark 43 Intermezzo, 2. Landmark 43White Shadow, 3. X-41 Olympic. Inga överraskningar?! Bra seglat av Kwanza som knep en 7:e plats – mitt i X-41-fleeten.
Class C:
1. Arcona 340 Katariina II, 2. J/112E Matilda 4, 3. First 36.7 Team Pro4u. Stort grattis till Patrik Forsgren och hans team till ännu en medalj. Svårt att rå på proffsen här.
Farrgo slutade 12:a och Mrs Freckles 27:a.
