Handbok för soloseglare
Thoughts, Tips, Techniques and Tactics for Singlehanded Sailing.
I met Andy when he came to help out my preparations on Ocean Planet for the 2004-2005 Vendee Globe. A nice guy and good sense of humor; after all he’s Canadian.
In many ways he represents all those who have become successful solo sailors on their own nickel; learning slowly from a mix of hard-earned experience, digging up obscure info, and sharing with each other.
It’s not like this sort of experience is falling off trees. While a lot of jabber about singlehanded sailing can be found on discussion forums and the odd magazine articles, this is the first collection of the varied aspects of the sport put together in one place. It takes thousands of hours of sailing to get the kind of knowledge contained in this book. It also takes a lot of experimentation and a willingness to be wrong nine times before getting it right on the tenth.
There are many recipes for successful solo sailing; as many as the actual sailors who do it. And there are many different levels of personal priorities. However many, many of the same mistakes are made over and over by those new to the sport, and by those who simply think they have it already figured out. Most of those mistakes can be prevented by carefully analyzing what Andy has put together.
This is good stuff, and I’m especially glad that he did it, because now I don’t have to.
Cheers,
Bruce Schwab

Oracle Racing = McLaren
This is an easy one. The buttoned down corporatism that sees even the athlete’s emotions scripted for them by centralised PR minders, combined with vast financial backing that can hire in the best talent, makes the similarities between these two operations eerie. Both are hugely talented and perfunctory, but lack a soul. Of course it matters none when the trophy is lifted and a certain kind of fan likes to be associated with winners.Mascalzone Latino = Ferrari
Also a no brainer. Italian passion mixed with a depth of talent that wants to win, though this team looks more like the one that stumbled through the 1980 without much success rather than all conquering Michael Schumacher era from 2000-2004.Team New Zealand = Williams
Once great, now struggling to keep up with the funding required to compete at the sharp end. Full of talent and with tons of experience, there is still a sense of nationalism that means fans are more loyal.Team Energy = Renault
The french do sport differently. When they get it right they can beat anyone on their day, but inconsistency is the thing that often leads to problems. With all the talent in place, this team looks like the 2005/6 team that swept all before it. Also with a strongly nationalistic approach.Artemis = Mercedes
When Michael Schumacher came out of retirement to drive in F1 again, people gave him all the respect he deserved as a multiple world champion, but in the time he had been away, things had moved on and younger, hungier drivers now ruled. Artemis has impressive line up of sailors who have all achived incredible things, but there is a sense that now the Americas cup will be sailed in physically demanding multihulls, this team isn’t quite there. The fans of this team are confused too. Like mecedes GP which was Honda then brawn then mercedes, Artemis is a predominantly American team flying a swedish flag.? = Red Bull Racing
In 2010, red bull racing showed that a sporting team can combine passion, fun, excitement with championship winning talent. Jimmy Spithill might be the mark Webber of the america’s cup scene, but where is the Sebastian vettel? Where is the team (like Puma in the Volvo Ocean Race) which will be known as much for their parties as their results on the water?
International Yacht Forum 2011

The Future of Offshore Yacht Racing.
Race sailing trends, up-to-date: International Yacht Forum sets standards.
The second International Yacht Forum Hamburg took place on February 12th, 2011 in the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and may be considered as a great success: 274 participants attended the lectures. The German Offshore Owners Association had called, and they all came: Particpants traveled all the way from Barcelona, Paris, St. Petersburg and even from Australia. Labeled „Sailing faster“,, the Forum assembled top designers of the international yachting scene in the Albert Schäfer Hall, who spoke about newest trends and develpoments to yacht owners from all over Europe. Volker Andreae, chairman of the hosting German Offshore Owners Association welcomed seven globally known yacht designers: Doug Schickler (USA), John Corby (GBR), Jason Ker (GBR), Malcolm Runnalls (AUS), Mark Mills (IRL), Simon Rogers (GBR) and Torsten Conradi (GER).

Sweet… Carbon Ocean Yachts 80 Aegir II
I was advised by everyone that no matter what situation I got myself into, do not buy or start a boatbuilding company. So yeah, obviously I didn’t take much notice there.
Norsteam brann
