Antal DNF i de stora offshore racen

Intressant statistik från Polished Manx (Facebook).

Det har resonerats lite kring varför Rolex Middle Sea Race ligger högt, jämört med till exempel Sydney Hobart? Det beror väl dels på hur fleeten ser ut, och att vädret kanske är mer nyckfullt. På väög till Hobart vet man att det blir hårt,och man startar inte om man inte är beredd på det.

Har vi motsvarande statistik för de 10 senaste årens Gotland Runt?

Det gjordes en bra sammanställning i somras, då 99 av 225 = 44% bröt. Nyttigt också att ta reda på varför båtar brutit. Något fler arrangörer borde göra. Och kommunicera.

I would like us to reflect a bit about our Off shore racing:

1. Why Middle Sea race seems to be the toughest one – most boats retirements?
2. Is Sydney Hobart attended only by “real sailors in their tough machines” – with number of DNFs lowest?
3. Has Fastnet name and RORC requirements made this race one of the safest ?
4. RORC Transatlantic seems to be “very safe” – why is that?
5. Is Round the Ireland such a niche/ boutique race that only serious boats and skippers participate and they DON’T RETIRE ?

I would like to thank Sydney to Hobart organisers for excellent data repository – all races have data standardised with DNF well explained.

I have tried to get in touch with all RORC boats which scored DNFs for their explanation – 50% has not yet answer my message, therefore I am only able to properly digest statistically S2H race and …watch this space – results gobsmacked me completely.
