Extended cut capturing our magical ride across the Pacific Ocean and taking first overall in the 50th edition of Transpac. We captured this video to compete in an new Transpac award class for best race video produced on the water. After Hamachi sailed into first place half way through the race, all thoughts of producing a video disappeared. Enjoy this cut of extended clips, b-roll and out takes that attempt to capture the sights and sounds of being on a 41ft (12.5 meter) racing boat ripping across an ocean.
At the end of the 1940ies, the Ohlson Brothers delivered boat designs for design contests but requests for design work started to flow in heavily after their 5.5m IC Hojwa won a bronze medal at the 1952 Olympic Games at Helsinki, Finland. This early success established their names internationally. The 5.5m boats became the formula one in world class sailing from the beginning of the 1950ies until the end of the 1960ies.
At each of the Olympic Games between 1952 and 1968 one of their boats was sailed to an Olympic medal. In parallel to these successes in racing, cruiser/racers were developed for sailors and won international recognition in racing and cruising.

I would like us to reflect a bit about our Off shore racing:
1. Why Middle Sea race seems to be the toughest one – most boats retirements?
2. Is Sydney Hobart attended only by “real sailors in their tough machines” – with number of DNFs lowest?
3. Has Fastnet name and RORC requirements made this race one of the safest ?
4. RORC Transatlantic seems to be “very safe” – why is that?
5. Is Round the Ireland such a niche/ boutique race that only serious boats and skippers participate and they DON’T RETIRE ?
I would like to thank Sydney to Hobart organisers for excellent data repository – all races have data standardised with DNF well explained.
I have tried to get in touch with all RORC boats which scored DNFs for their explanation – 50% has not yet answer my message, therefore I am only able to properly digest statistically S2H race and …watch this space – results gobsmacked me completely.
Here are updated stats for last 9 years – this time including Sydney to Hobart races – graph is this time colour coded for ease of reading.
