Ytterligare en cool Class 40. Denna gång Orca 40 från Humphreys Yacht Design. Byggs på Ocean Tec Company i Slovenien och skall sjösättas de närmaste veckorna.

The new Class40 box rule has created conditions for the fastest growing offshore racing fleet in the world. Its success is mainly based on the Class40 prime subjective: to introduce affordable and manageable offshore yacht for both professional and amateur sailors, that could be sailed shorthanded or fully crewed.

Taking advantage of the latest knowledge in hydrodynamics and naval architecture enabled creation of extremely fast boats that exceed the speed of much bigger boats from previous generation, despite severe rule restrictions on hi–tech solutions such as canting keels and use of carbon fibres. Vacuum-infused epoxy PVC sandwich laminates with integral secondary structure in a monocoque arrangement is a leading edge “3D infusion” process developed by Ocean tec to promote structural longevity. This construction approach produces significant weight savings and better mechanical properties at the same time, thus making the boats lighter, stiffer and safer.

The design work on the Orca yachts is entrusted to Humphreys Yacht Design, a company which has consistently struck the right note between experience, innovation, style, and performance. Having Rob Humphreys in a pro-active, steering role in Orca’s product development gives Orca yachts the direct benefit of his insight into the world’s yachting market.

Although the Orca Class40 is a “full on race boat”, the very features that enhance her shorthanded capability give her a strong cruising capability, enriching both her afterlife value and general usability. Orca Yachts will make sound sense to any potential customer who has a hankering for speed and style as well as comfort, safety, and reliability.

The Ocean tec`s design expertise, its technical ability, and its state of the art production processes add detail strength to this base philosophy, giving the Orca brand a very precise compass course to steer by.

Orca Class40 yachts are going to be built in Epoxy glass PVC sandwich “3D infused” laminate from production moulds. The tooling process is underway and the prototype is scheduled to be launched in late February 2008 to compete in the Transat race in May 2008.

NORLYS | uppdaterade standardbåtar

Nu har NORLYS presenterat sin uppdaterade lista med standardbåtar. 111 båtar, eller varianter, förutom de som finns i den vanliga LYS-tabellen. Nya Dehler 34 och X-34 är redan med. Kuriosa är att J/109 nu finns med som standardbåt – 1.29 med fock.

This “Video Of The Week” appears to have been provided to you by Dannews.co.nz. (Editor note: We were not provided with the video. We were merely linking to YouTube, where the video was hosted).

Neither this person, nor you have any rights to provide this for viewing and we ask that it be removed from your archives and that the person that provided the material also be informed of the violation of rights.

Those rights belong exclusively to ACTV, which was the Host Broadcaster for both the 1992 and 1995 series of races held in San Diego. On that particular day, weather kept us from getting our choppers in the air for live coverage and also prevented us from transmitting the feeds from our chase boats on the water. Since racing was still held, we shot on tape and happened to be in the right stop when the incident took place.

When we returned to shore, we provided the material to our rights holders, including ESPN in the United States and TVNZ in New Zealand. We also provided news material with specific embargoes. Usage was limited to 48 hours following conclusion of the race and no one was permitted to archive the material. In addition, we provided still pictures from our coverage for newspapers.

I’m certain that you were provided the material without any knowledge of the restriction that were placed on this material and we have also informed Dan that he must immediately remove the material from his site. We also ask that you do the same.

Ingen klassindelning på ORCi EM?

Ett kärt tema här på blur.se. Fler klasser med tajt motstånd i varje, eller en stor med en enda vinnare. I något läge frågade vi läsarna, och då ville 64% ha flera mindre klasser.

GKSS är ju kända för att ha svårt med klassindelningar, och nu verkar det knorras bland ORCi-seglarna inför EM (senast på Öresund Regatta). Skall det bara seglas i en enda klass, eller skall man del upp på ett vettigt sätt? Vill man ha en enda europamästare för att tillfredsställa någon i land, eller kan det vara svårt att få rättvisa mellan 30- och 55-fotare?

I NoR står det att man skall segla i grupper, men bara i en klass?

The number of groups at start will be decided by the Race Committee after the entry time passed (after July 1, 2008)

The participating boats will not be divided into different classes, but it will be one prize for the best Corinthian.

En kul detalj är att man i anmälan skall ange “ISAF Sailor ID” men inte båtens mätetal.

Snart är det ju även dax för den svenskbyggda Fox 9.50 att sjösättas. Tydligen har intresset varit stort och jag hoppas kunna få in en provsegling i min agenda…

Armando Giulietti and Sébastien Col out sail the opposition and conquer the Dubai RC 44 Cup.

Dubai RC 44 Cup – March 7, 2008 – The Italian-French duo left no chance to the opposition today, winning two out of three races and finishing the fleet race event with a comfortable margin over Team Ceeref and Team ES Bankers Dubai.

The wind had shifted to the left for today’s last races, and the chop made it a significantly different race course than the one experienced during the previous days. This novelty didn’t disturb Team Hiroshi — Città di Milano, with Armando Giulietti at the helm and Sébastien Col at the tactics. Indeed, the Italian team clearly dominated the fleet today, taking excellent starts, sailing fast and at the right place to win the event with a massive 15 points margin over Team Ceeref and Team ES Bankers Dubai.
